UNIQUENESS AND RESEMBLANCE

“We all have something in common and we are all unique. Our social system focuses on the development of our resemblance to create a homogeneous society corresponding to some criteria, having the same characteristics and, as a consequence, easily predictable and controllable. Uniqueness is rarely taught and consciously developed. Most people don’t realize that they are unique and sometimes they are afraid to be different from others. On the contrary, they try to resemble to others, to follow a fashion, to speak with the same accent and to use the same expressions and ideas, to have the same interests, to be similar, to be a part of a group. As a result, they are scared to be criticized and rejected by others, they have difficulty to have their own opinion and to express it publicly. If, however, some people dare to show their creations, or to express out loud their thoughts different from common ideas, they are likely to face a social incomprehension, or an open criticism, because everything which differs from habitual programs, ideas, standards tends to be rejected, as the first public reaction, before being studied with more attention and eventually progressively accepted by people…” (pp.63-64)
